Accomplishments

Today was the first time I left the house with both kids by myself! I felt so accomplished when I was finished with my two very quick errands. Never mind the fact that I made up my mind to actually run these errands at 8:00 this morning and it was after 11:00 by the time we were all three dressed, fed, and in the car...I managed to get it done all the same.

I can remember so well the early days of my motherhood after Christopher was born. I felt like it took me forever to get out of the house, and he was just one child. Eventually it became easier and easier and before too long we were out and about all the time. I guess maybe it will be that way with two kids. I'm sure I will adjust and before I realize it I won't even remember life before Lucy. I mean there are thousands and thousands of mothers who have more than one child so how hard can it be??

I would also like to add how incredible my little boy really is. He has so far surpassed any expectation I had of him being a big brother. He continues to simply adore and love on his baby sister. He is so eager to help and he just melts my heart all the time. Today I had Lucy sitting in her bouncy seat while I was in the shower. After only a couple of minutes she grew tired of that and started to cry. Christopher immediately came in from my bedroom, where he had been watching TV and playing with his trucks, and began to sing the ABC song to Lucy (he had helped me sing to her a couple of days ago and since then it is the first thing he does when she cries now). She only stopped momentarily and then the wails came again. Christopher disappeared into my bedroom but returned shortly, this time with her pacifier. He gently gave it to her and then asked "All better?" When that didn't work he left again but then came back with a different binky (we're trying a few different kinds to try and get her to take one of them). This time, she took it and stopped crying long enough for me to finish my shower. I couldn't believe he did all of that on his own without my even asking him to help. I can already tell Lucy is going to be a very lucky little girl. In about 15 years when some boy breaks her heart, he is going to have to answer to her big brother.

Okay... I have tears in my eyes because of how sweet Christopher is! And because I know how much a mostly uninterrupted shower means!

Love to you all,
Deb (& Josh & Noah)

How wonderful that you got out today! I enjoy hearing that I am not the only one that has trouble getting everyone up, fed, and dressed before 10:00. You are doing a great job.

Oh I know exactly how you feel. It's like all the planets have to be aligned for things to go just right. But this too will pass, and you will soon think nothing of strapping them both in the car! Now, I'm not gonna lie, I still don't like to take both of them on errands! I don't know if that will ever change!

With a new baby due in a couple of months, I have to say I am impressed wit your mommy skillz. I was just thinking today, while wrestling Cora through errands that we will have to stay at our house more than we do now.

But perhaps not?

What a sweet big brother!
