Christopher and Lucy

So, it has been a while since I have posted!  We've been busy playing in the sprinkler, traveling to Austin for a family wedding, and spending time on Memere' and Grandad's farm.  Miss Lucy B continues to be such a sweet joy in our lives.  She is proving to be a little more high maintenance than Christopher was but, she is a girl after all. We still feel very blessed to have another very good baby.  She is eating well and has begun to give me about six hours of sleep at night.  Christopher is still in love with his baby sister and he keeps me very busy when I'm not tending to the baby.  At any rate, here are some recent pictures of our precious children.  Enjoy!

What do I have in store for me?

I have discovered that many moms of girls get really excited over bows. I think bows are great and all, but for me right now while Lucy is so little I am totally crazy for bonnets. I think she looks so cute in them! Today I dressed her in one of my favorite outfits that happens to have a matching bonnet...

Before putting on the bonnet...doesn't she look cute?  And happy!

With the matching bonnet.  I know this looks like she is smiling but...

...it is really just the beginning stages of this!!
Do you think this means that my daughter is going to be opinionated about what she wears?

You know you are a mother of two when...

  • You go shopping with your one month old baby (sans other child) and it is so easy it almost feels like a vacation!
  • You look down at your deflated belly and think back to when you were a little girl staring at your mother's stretched out tummy, and she tells you yours will look that way someday too.  You thought then that wasn't possible, but now you have discovered that she was right...again.
  • While shopping for something to wear to a dinner you have a fleeting thought to actually look in Talbots. And to my cousins that read this, it was only a thought and it was very fleeting.
But you also know...
  • To cherish and enjoy every tiny "coo" and movement they make, even at 3 a.m., because you know it really does go by so fast.
  • That no matter the age of your older child, all of a sudden they seem so grown up to you.  You remind yourself over and over that they are still young, only to lie awake at night and tearfully think about all the times during the day you expected too much out of them.
  • That there really is room in your heart to love another one just the same.
I love being a mom.  I truly believe it was what I was put on this Earth to do.  It is not always easy and there are many times I think I don't do a good job (but that is normal right?), but still, I love it.

Happy Mother's Day to all of the moms that read this!

The End of an Era

Tonight, my fabulous cousin Beth passed on her title as PISD Elementary Teacher of the Year to someone new. Plano ISD hosts a Gala each year in honor of the Teacher of the Year. This time last year, several members of my family attended the Gala and were there when they announced Beth as Elementary Teacher of the Year for 2007. What an amazing accomplishment that was for her in her short, but very well established, career as an educator. It was such an exciting night! We attended the Gala again this year to watch Beth give a speech and be there to congratulate the new TOTY. Obviously, the night wasn't the same as last year but it just reminded me how very proud I am of Beth and all of her success as a teacher. I can only hope that Christopher and Lucy will get at least one teacher who is half as good as she is.

Congratulations Beth, on completing a year with such an amazing honor. I can't wait to see where you go from here. Your students are so lucky to have you in their lives and so am I!! I love you and am so proud of you!

One Month, Sleep Deprivation, and a Few Smiles...

Miss Lucy B officially turned one month old this past Saturday! Where did April go? I can't believe our little peanut is already in her second month of life. We are really getting along just fine with the exception of my lack of sleep. I typically don't require that much sleep but this is starting take its toll on me. When Christopher came along and I was up with him at night I could nap during the day while he was sleeping. Not so much the case this time around! But I am managing and really enjoying our baby girl who has given me a couple of genuine grins the last couple of days!! I will be taking her to the pediatrician on Wednesday for a one month check-up. I'll post her new stats then...
